Psychology is a scientific modality and branch of study which deals with behaviour – both the conscious and unconscious aspect of it.

For pain, however, the experience of such sensation can be labelled as subjective – one slight wound or injury can be minimally painful to some while to others it can be gruesomely excruciating. In which case, the experience of pain is personal and, thus, related to the patient’s psychological cognition.

The reaction to pain is often dependent on a prior experience or non-experience of such injury.
